Tour Overview
Experience one of Tanzania’s most rewarding mountain adventures on this 4-day Mount Meru trek in Arusha National Park. Standing at 4,566 meters, Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and offers an excellent combination of challenging hiking, spectacular scenery, and abundant wildlife. Often considered the perfect preparation for Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru provides a rewarding trekking experience with fewer crowds and remarkable views throughout the journey.
The route passes through diverse ecosystems, including lush montane forests, open grasslands, alpine meadows, and volcanic landscapes. Unlike many mountain treks, Mount Meru offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, with chances to see giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, colobus monkeys, and a variety of bird species along the lower slopes. As you ascend, breathtaking views of the Meru Crater, Ash Cone, and distant Mount Kilimanjaro create unforgettable photographic moments.
Accompanied by experienced mountain guides and armed park rangers, trekkers enjoy a safe and well-supported adventure while learning about the region’s unique ecology and wildlife. Whether undertaken as a standalone trek or combined with a Northern Circuit safari, Mount Meru offers the perfect blend of adventure, nature, and personal achievement in one of Tanzania’s most beautiful mountain environments.

A private transfer will be waiting for you at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport to take you to the lodge in Arusha. After settling in, you will have a pre-trek briefing with your guides highlighting the important aspects of the trek, like the itinerary, safety measures, equipment required, and altitude trekking tips. You can spend the afternoon relaxing or visit the lively markets. You can also learn about the local culture and the Maasai people. An armed ranger for security does accompany you. Some of the ranges have modestly breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. Settle in at Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m / 8,250 ft), which is a basic but comfy mountain hut located on a grassy sward.
