Tour Overview
Take on one of Mount Kilimanjaro’s most challenging and rewarding climbs with this 7-day adventure via the Umbwe Route. Known for its steep ascent, dramatic scenery, and low visitor numbers, the Umbwe Route is ideal for experienced trekkers seeking a more demanding path to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point at 5,895 meters.
The journey begins on Kilimanjaro’s southern slopes and passes through a remarkable range of ecosystems, including dense rainforest, heather moorlands, alpine desert, and high-altitude glacial terrain. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of the mountain’s rugged landscapes while encountering unique flora such as giant groundsels and lobelias, as well as wildlife including colobus monkeys and a variety of bird species.
This carefully planned itinerary includes an additional acclimatization day, helping to improve comfort and increase the chances of a successful summit. Daily hikes are supported by experienced mountain guides, porters, cooks, and comprehensive safety procedures to ensure a well-organized trekking experience.
Perfect for adventurous travelers with strong fitness levels, the Umbwe Route offers a quieter alternative to Kilimanjaro’s more popular trails while delivering breathtaking scenery and a true sense of wilderness. It can also be combined with a Tanzania safari or Zanzibar beach holiday for a complete East African adventure.
