In contrast, Arusha National Park may not possess the bush diversity of other Tanzania parks, spanning 137 km², making it a compact yet diverse gem in Tanzania's Northern Circuit. Situated between the peaks of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, Arusha National Park is famous for its stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity. The park is home to a variety of ecosystems comprised of montane forests, open savannahs, alkaline lakes, and the remarkable Ngurdoto Crater – often referred to as “Little Ngorongoro.” Its proximity to Arusha allows for easy accessibility when it comes to day trips where giraffes, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, and flamingos, alongside over 400 other species of birds, including pelicans at Momella Lakes, can be observed. It is also home to colobus monkeys and bushbucks, along with the elusive leopard, making it all the more alluring. Though lions and rhinos are absent, the park's enchanted view, paired with other wildlife, makes it equally striking. A different view of the park is from the optional canoeing activity on Momella Lake, where families can glide through the water amongst the birds and enjoy the splendid view offered by the lake. Designed for the dry season, this tour maximizes viewing opportunities during the later months of June through October, remaining optimal year-round. Jan-Feb offers vibrant greenery and fewer crowds,s making it an ideal time while still being enjoyed throughout the year.
The drive from Arusha to the park is expected to take 1-2 hours, alongside balanced game drives, cultural experiences, and other activities which, in total, do not exceed 4-6 hours, so the immersion is gentle and enjoyable. Protection of the environment remains a commitment, obeying the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) guidelines, eco-friendly waste management policies, and fair treatment of employees, such as guides and park staff. Arranging a private visit to a Maasai village adds to the insights and connections one makes with the culture of Tanzania. Guided game drives, picnic lunches, and family fun add to the experience, making this day trip to Arusha National Park wildlife and landscape inclusive. Starting May 30, 2025, this trip will be perfect for families and friends looking for a real deal on a true adventure. The plan aims to assist in getting the most wildlife encounters and cultural experiences for the family in one day, ensuring ease in travel while capturing unforgettable experiences.
